Almost all classical opera deals with existential problems like hatred and love or life and death. But it usually takes place in a historical context that is far from Sweden today. Greek myths, eighteenth century court, exotic Gypsy camps, the upper class in Vienna in the nineteenth century, kings, daughters, love, forced marriages and fantasy.
NewOpera CO have wanted to find out what happens if you deal with urgent topics in stories that are more linked to our contemporary sociaety and issues that are relevant today. So far it has worked well in the works of NewOpera CO with themes as loss and grief, terror dramas, loss of voice, partner relationships and child raising. And we look forward to create new-opera about migration, the increased inequality, the environment, equality and economic policy. But also about love, hate and sudden death.
